Volume Profile: POC, Value Area and volume nodes

Volume by price level instead of by time: find where price was accepted and where it is likely to move fast.

What Volume Profile is

Volume Profile plots volume as horizontal bars at each price level. It shows where the market traded the most, in other words where buyers and sellers agreed on value.

POCPoint of Control: the price with the most volume
Value AreaThe zone holding about 70% of volume; VAH is its top, VAL its bottom
HVN / LVNHigh-volume node (price tends to stall) / low-volume node (price tends to move fast)
On TradingViewVolume Profile tools: Visible Range, Fixed Range, Session

How to trade it

  • Open inside the Value Area: price often rotates between VAH and VAL, play back to POC.
  • Price breaks out of the Value Area and holds: it can travel to the next HVN.
  • LVNs act as fast-reaction zones: price either slices through or rejects hard.
  • The previous session's POC often works as a magnet in the next session.
Watch outLike all volume data, Volume Profile on Forex relies on your data provider's tick volume.
