How to use the calendar

Each event shows the currency it affects, the consensus forecast and the previous value. Markets move on the difference between the actual figure and the forecast, not on the number itself: an inflation print slightly above consensus can move gold and the dollar more than a large change that was fully expected.

High-impact events are the ones to plan around. For the US dollar these include CPI, PCE inflation, non-farm payrolls, retail sales, ISM surveys and Federal Reserve rate decisions and press conferences. For the euro, ECB decisions and euro-area inflation; for sterling, Bank of England decisions and UK CPI.

Trading around releases

Spreads widen in the minutes before and after a major release, and price can jump through stop levels. Some traders close positions beforehand, others wait for the first move to settle and trade the retest. Whatever you choose, decide before the event and size the position for the larger range.

Revisions matter too. A strong headline number with a large downward revision to the previous month can reverse the first reaction within minutes.

Gold and the calendar

Gold reacts mainly to US data through its effect on real yields and the dollar. Hotter inflation or stronger jobs data that push rate expectations higher usually weigh on gold; softer data usually support it. The gold price page on this site combines today's levels with the same event list.

About the data

Prices come from public sources (Yahoo Finance, gold-api.com) and the calendar from the ForexFactory public feed. The page is rebuilt every three hours; figures can lag the live market, so always confirm prices on your own platform before acting.
